‘Dumb Blonde’: Nicki Minaj & Avril Lavigne Fans In Frenzy Over Confirmed Collabo

Published: Thursday 7th Feb 2019 by Rashad

As if fans of Pop rocker Avril Lavigne didn’t have reason enough to be excited for the release of the 34-year-old’s new album, ‘Head Above Water’ (due in stores February 15), reports that rapstress Nicki Minaj will serve as the project’s sole feature was enough to send them overboard.

The news came just as the singer’s track list was confirmed via preorder links on a number of international outlets, including Amazon and iTunes.  Once fans got wind of the listing, frenzy ensued.

The concept and idea for #DumbBlonde came to me through a situation I experienced and I brought it to @BonnieMcKee and #MitchAllan, who helped me bring it to life. I had this fucking loser in my life who was threatened by my strength, confidence and independence as a woman. I was belittled and made to feel bad for who I was: A leader, someone with a vision and opinions, someone who has strength, desire, passion and goals. Never let anyone put you down for being who you are. Stand up. Fight. Be you. Love. Be genuine. Kind. Find yourself and own it. Fuck stereotypes. If you’re a strong person and your partner can’t handle you, go find someone who has enough self-confidence and can support you and lift you up and inspire you in your life. As an equal. A friend. Not someone who needs to take you down to make themselves feel better because of their low self-esteem. Yes, women should build each other up, but so should men and women. A snippet of the duet, titled ‘Dumb Blonde,’ can be heard above (sans Nicki).  Penned by Lavigne and singer/songwriter Bonnie McKee, reports have it Minaj’s inclusion was added at the “eleventh hour” as web sites’ original posting of the song was a version of ‘Blonde’ that’s 26 seconds shorter than what is currently listed.

Be that as it may, we – much like the fans listed in the tweets below – look forward to a full listen to what the oddly, yet interestingly paired duo have cooked up.  Rumor has it ‘Blonde’ was inspired by (and features elements of) Gwen Stefani‘s chart-topping single, ‘Hollaback Girl.’

I’m not feeling the snippet, but I will reserve judgement until the full song is out.

“I ain’t no dumb blonde. I ain’t no stupid Barbie doll.” How does Nicki jump on a track like this with lyrics that are the antithesis of what she’s about?
